Consumers will be able to file complaints or concerns electronically via a new product safety database the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission plans for 2011.
The CPSC will launch the database in March as part of www.saferproducts.gov. At that point, consumers can post their product concerns directly online.
Manufacturers and purchasers can also post comments in response to the public complaints and have that information appear as part of the record in the database.
Manufacturers and purchasers are encouraged to register with the CPSC in order to receive information about their products as it is submitted into the database.
A search function on www.saferproducts.gov will also allow users to research the database for available product information before making a purchase.
Consumers can continue to report product safety issues on the CPSC recall hotline (800) 638-2772. Manufacturers and purchasers can also continue to report product safety issues on their own accord.
