Art Van Furniture is donating $10,000 in furniture to help make a Detroit couple’s wish for homeownership come true.

The McQueen family of Detroit will receive a fully furnished home as part of Project: Welcome Home, which aimed to put a family into a new house in time for the holidays. The project included Habitat for Humanity Detroit, Art Van Furniture, The Parade Co. and Compuware, a press release said.

The project was launched after Detroit’s 2011 America’s Thanksgiving Parade, when a float displayed wishes submitted through the iWish4Detroit.com website. A common theme was home ownership.

The first two years of mortgage for the McQueen home are paid. The family works in the health care industry and previously shared one bedroom with their two sons at a relative’s home.

“We wish them a holiday and a home filled with joy, love and beautiful family memories for many years to com,” said Art Van Elslander, founder and chairman of Art Van.
