Sling Measurement Procedure for Seating Slings

Sling Measurement Procedure for Seating Slings

There is very little tolerance for errors when measuring slings, so please follow these instructions carefully!

TOOLS REQUIRED: You will need a CLOTH tape measure — the kind used by tailors/sewers.

THE SLING SHOULD BE MOUNTED IN THE CHAIR, AND THE BOLTS HOLDING THE SLING RAILS TO THE CHAIR FRAME SHOULD BE TIGHT.

How to measure the width of a seating sling

STEP 1: Measure the WIDTH

It is important that you measure at the two points where the bolts attaching the sling rails to the frame are located. You will find the upper ones near the rear of the arms, and the lower ones under the seat, near the front.

DO NOT MEASURE AT THE VERY TOP OR THE FRONT OF THE SLING.

Measure the exposed fabric from side to side. You will need to add 1/4″ to each side for the spline.  Take the AVERAGE of the two measurements to the nearest ¼ inch.

How to measure the length of a seating sling

STEP 2: Measure the LENGTH

The tape measure must follow the contour of the sling curves. This is why you need a CLOTH tape measure.

Measure the entire length of the groove in the sling rail, regardless of where your current sling starts or ends (sometimes the slings have shrunk in the track, leaving a gap at the top or bottom, so we don’t want the new sling measurement to be based on the shorter length).

Don’t include the plastic end caps in the measurement: you should start and end the measurements right where the groove is visible at the caps.

Measure both sides and average the two sizes to the nearest ¼ inch.

WARNING!
We will make the slings to YOUR measurements. Therefore, we assume NO RESPONSIBILITY if your sling measurement is not correct. Slings may NOT be returned or refunded.

Placing Your Order

When you add a sling to the shopping cart, you will see three drop-down boxes. In these you will choose the sling width, the sling length, and the fabric you have chosen. There are an additional two boxes for width & length in case your chair has two slings.
