About Pipefine Patio Furniture

Pipefine Patio Furniture was established in 1968 to manufacture PVC pipe patio furniture. It was originally located in the Pompano Beach area of Florida.

Since that time it has had several locations, and was at one time producing its furniture range from an airport hangar!

Its retail stores sold its own products, and added to the range with cushions, patio umbrellas and bases, fiberglass tables, outdoor lighting and showers, and other outdoor, patio and pool accessories from other manufacturers. In the back was always the factory, pumping out orders for patio dining sets and outdoor bar sets, including chairs, recliners & footstools, bar chairs, chaise lounge chairs, and other specialty pieces such as its popular swivel-rocker.

Through the years, its designs became more sophisticated, employing heating and bending equipment and proprietary molds. This technology allowed for multiple curves in the pipe frames, leading to a wider range of styles and design complexity.

The company passed through several owners over the years, until in 2007 a new owner moved the entire operation to Bunnell, in Flagler County, Florida. Here the retail operation was scaled back, and the focus became more Internet-based, with the roll-out of PipefinePatioFurniture.com. The website enabled sales and distribution to a national customer base instead of just locally.

In 2008 a strategic decision was made to discontinue manufacturing altogether, and expand the distribution-only business model. This was a difficult decision for the owners, as it meant the end of the 40 year old, well-established outdoor furniture manufacturing business — effectively the end of Pipefine branded products. The factory and retail store were closed, and sales and marketing became exclusively via the Internet. This was ultimately a smart move, because the recession that followed did not impact the company as it would have if it was locally-based only.

Pipefine Patio Furniture continues to thrive and evolve. Its product range was again expanded to include a range of medical equipment and furniture, also made with PVC pipe. The replacement cushion division supplies outdoor cushions for almost any type and brand of patio furniture. PatioPads.com boasts the largest range of outdoor fabric options on the Internet, with close to 500 different fabrics to choose from, including the world-renowned Sunbrella® range.

Worth noting is that Pipefine has resisted the temptation to import cheap, inferior-quality products. Although greater profit margins would be possible by following most other retailers in this trend, Pipefine strongly supports “Made in America”. Its product range includes very few imported items.

Another way Pipefine supports America is by donating a share of its profits to the Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org). Several years ago the company followed in the footsteps of one of its employees who supported this worthy cause, by making a commitment to WWP as its exclusive charity.

What does the future hold for Pipefine? Well, it still holds the designs and molds for its unique designs, so who knows? You can be sure that no matter the direction it takes, our commitment to excellent customer service will never diminish.
